For the collector or rare materials, it would be difficult to find something more obscure that this gem. Named for the type locality in Mexico, we have only seen a handful of faceted stones from a deposit in Italy. The rough that cut this stone came from an old collection and the exact locality of the find is now lost, though it was likely in the Veneto. The stone is a well cut rectangle and has a rather attractive milky transparency to it - not unlike opal. This unusually high level of transparency, coupled with the fine cutting, make this one better than most that were cut. Moreover, this is one of the very largest faceted examples of this species we have ever encountered. Great collection piece.
