A legendary rarity, New York Hexagonite is one of the most storied of US gem rarities - indeed, among rarities worldwide. The deep purple variety of Tremolite, facet grade material from New York is many decades old and one only encounters a piece when they are liberated from older collections. Just such the case with this stunner, a stone with superlative quality for the species. Added to the allure of Hexagonite is the difficulty in cutting it - the cleavage is known to be among the most challenging of all stones. We have seen a few and typically you are lacking in one or more of the important characteristics - clarity, cutting or color. Here, you have it all. This gem is extremely clean for the material as fractures and visible cleavage is de rigueur - we have shown the gem at its absolute worst in the photos above to give you some idea of the clarity. Moreover, the cutting is sensational, a very fine effort indeed. And then the color, absolutely perfect deep saturated magenta. The best we have had and truly a special stone.
