An extremely rare example of member of the Tourmaline group worked as a gem material.  Rossmanite occurs as the vacancy-dominant Tourmaline in only a few locals worldwide - positive identification can only be done with intensive analysis.  One of the proven finds of Rossmanite (named for George Rossman in honor of his work with Tourmaline spectroscopy) occurs in Manitoba at the Tanco Mine - the locale for this rather lovely cab.  The color is a fine deep reddish purple - great shape and size as well.  One for the collector of the truly obscure!
