We quite frankly had a hard time believing the old label was correct when we saw this piece in a collection we selected from. The largest example of this rare species we had heard of previously was no more than 2 carats. Indeed, the largest gemmy crystals ever found were barely 2 inches in length and came from the area around Brumado in the late 1970’s. Almost certainly the find that produced this museum grade stone - likely the finest and largest cut stone of its species. And yes, the first thing we did was get a full GIA lab report on this one! The stone is eye clean, there are a few dark ‘speck’ type inclusions and a couple of reflective cleavage planes visible when rotated. For the species, the clarity is as impressive as the size. Beyond that, great care was taken to give the gem a fine cut, again, all the more rare for the material. A spectacular piece and a true gemological treasure.
