Asterism in Spinel so not widely known, but it is capable of being rather remarkable. The stars are exceptionally sharp, considerably better than most Sapphire in fact. If there were more of these, and in brighter bodycolors, they would be coveted by a much wider audience. This is a fine a really fine example, again with a simply great star - sharp and mobile. The bodycolor here is quite special; while dark, it is a very obvious purplish-red. Many of these are extremely dark and unsaturated as to appear gray at best in normal light. The high polish gives a very fine luster as well; simply a fine and fascinating stone.
