Garnet has a very broad range of color, producing gems in nearly every color. One of the rarest of these colors is colorless - a garnet with no bodycolor at all. Sri Lanka has been known as source for these colorless garnets (of the Grossular species) for several decades; these gems are sometimes labelled as 'leuco' garnets, though that term has largely fallen from use. There have never been more than a trickle of these Sri Lankan stones, so we were delighted to run across an example of any size. And this one is simply massive for this variety; we can’t recall every having had a larger stone of this quality. As with almost all of these, there is a nearly imperceptible faint yellow tinge to the color, given the size this is impressively minimal. For the connoisseur of Garnets.
