Despite the very attractive and similarly colored gems that have been mined in China, the gem world still widely prefers gem Rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine as its favorite. Given two nearly identical stones, the Sweet Home stone will almost certainly sell first even at a higher price; the consequence no doubt of a locale and find so famed that it is forever linked with the entire species. We are seldom able to offer larger, fine Sweet Home stones now - the mine has been closed for years and the supply has simply vanished. This lovely stone is from the new workings at the Detroit City Portal of the Sweet Home Mine. This gem is a great stone for someone looking for quite a bit of value for the cost - despite its excellent size and cutting, it does have some slightly eye visible inclusions. The cost is therefore greatly reduced for a stone that still faces up beautifully and is a popular shape in the classic color.
