From a very limited find in Brazil several years ago comes this example of 'sunset' Quartz.  The bright orange bodycolor and slight sleepiness are caused by extremely fine, indeed microscopic, iron rich needle type inclusions - likely limonite.  You can just make these out on the magnified image above.  This very attractive find was written up in Gems and Gemology at the time (Winter 2006) and has since nearly disappeared from the market.

All told, this is one of the best examples of this variety that we have been able to source.  The color is exceptional, a very bright orange that is not often seen.  Furthermore, the size is significant - anything this good above 5 carats was rare, so at nearly 25 carats this is surely one of the finest ever to come out.  And finally, the fact that the stone is free from any 'other' inclusions - fractures, black spots, etc. is worth mentioning.  Really lovely, and rare.
