Asterism in Spinel so not widely known, but it is capable of being rather remarkable. The stars are exceptionally sharp, considerably better than most Sapphire in fact. If there were more of these, and in brighter bodycolors, they would be coveted by a much wider audience. This is a fine a really fine example, again with a simply great star - sharp and mobile. So much so in fact that we couldn’t resist playing with some of the optical tricks possible with varying the light source(s). The bodycolor here is quite special; while dark, it is a noticeable purple. Many of these are extremely dark and unsaturated as to appear gray at best in normal light. The high polish gives a very fine luster as well; simply a fine and fascinating stone.
