A fascinating material indeed. What at first glance appears to be a simple slice of a banded Agate reveals a full spectral show of colors with some transmitted incandescent light. There is a series of tiny banded that creates this diffraction - Iris Agate is found in a few localities worldwide but it must be cut correctly to induce the display - just a slight variation in the thickness of the slice and you can loose it. A nice US example.
