The mineral Vlasovite is inherently quite rare, being discovered in Russia in 1961 - the single occurrence of gem grade examples is at Sheffield Lake in Quebec. The Vlasovite forms in concert with the much more common Eudialyte and, since the initial find here, very few stones have been cut. A Gems & Gemology article from 2012 mentions the largest faceted example as only 0.52 ct. and we personally have had few larger. The size is certainly exceptional, as is the overall clarity; there are few tiny ‘specks’ of an included mineral, but other than that the gem is entirely eye clean. A superb Canadian rarity indeed and incredibly difficult to source.
