One of the unexpected pleasures of the last decade has been the discovery of some very unique color varieties of gem Kornerupine. Previously, as a generally brownish green stone it got little attention. Now, however, we have stones such as this intense minty green gem from finds in Tanzania. The color is quite vivid and almost unlike any other material (some Mozambique Paraiba perhaps?) and we have simply been waiting to find some larger stones. That is really the only problem - most of these are quite small while larger ones tend to be less vivid in saturation. This one is just right - a fine 1.33 carat gem with an extremely saturated bodycolor and very clean. There is just a slight touch of haze under magnification, but it does nothing to soften the brilliance. A really gorgeous example of this rare color variety in a rare size.
