Though the species has the distinction of being first documented from California, Kunzite from that state is quite rare on the market today. Specimens are widely known and collected from the San Diego Co. mines, but facet rough is exceedingly uncommon. With that, we can forget just how fine the initial finds must have been - the color is deep for the species and is quite purplish. These fine colors can be easily forgotten with the dearth of very light (and all pink) material from Brazil and Afghanistan that has been in the market for years. This special stone is both of significant size and has the fantastic (and totally untreated!) color. There are one or two tiny fluid type inclusions typical of pegmatite gems from this locale but absolutely nothing distracting. A superb California gem.
