Long one of the great rarities of the gem world, there were just two or three faceted examples of Painite known to exist.  This changed around a decade ago when a relatively large find was made in Burma.  Species collectors were delighted - small, reasonable affordable Painites abounded.  The problem for those interested in seeking out gemmy, high-quality examples of any decent size was that they were simply not to be had.  The initial Burmese find was of heavily included and fractured rough - even very small faceted stones were often quite included.

We are quite happy that we successfully continued hounding our sources enough that we have come up with another very respectable gem in excess of 1 carat. While dark, as nearly all of these are, this one is fully transparent and does have a nice flash of brown and red with good lighting. The red flash tends to be the mark of the highest quality of these and something that we always long to see. So, so difficult to find stones of this quality in this size - these are so rare at this level, that they become true museum pieces. Beautiful stone.
