An essentially perfect example of a very rare gem variety - bright green Zoisite. Widely known as Tanzanite in the typical violet-blue color, Zoisite is actually found in a whole spectrum of hues. One of the rarest and most attractive of these is a rich, bright green that is a natural shade - remember that most traditional Tanzanite is heated. In fact when this rough was first found it was so distinctive as to merit discussion of a new variety name - 'Gubelinite' after the famed gemologist. Though these plans fell through, the material remains exceptionally attractive and sought after in the market place - now sometimes referred to as 'chrome' Tanzanite. The trichroism of the material (present in unheated stones) is on full display as rotating the stone shows both strong bluish-green and yellow-green hues. What is truly remarkable is the way the stone has been orientated to feature the best color, that rich ‘chrome’ green, as the primary face-up hue. Great US cutting and simply a magnificent ‘fancy’ Tanzanite; incredibly rare this nice.
