We couldn’t resist the alliterative title for this one - and it is a stone that deserves special attention from collectors of the rare. Most Co-Calcite is Spanish or Moroccan material that is cut from large masses and, therefore, not entirely transparent. The gem is most widely known from these ‘sleepy’ examples. Here we have a stone from a single crystal example and so it is exceedingly transparent for the material. Moreover, the color is astonishing, a vivid saturation that looks more like gel Sugilite than a Co-Calcite. A fine rarity indeed from a limited find in Congo.
