Hibonite is an interesting story; as a mineral it is know from various locales (Malagasy specimens are black and opaque!), but no one seems to have anticipated the occurrence of gem crystals of this species. About 10 years ago such an occurrence happened in Mogok, but there has an exceptionally small amount of higher quality material found. When we offer these, they are generally 1/4 ct. in size - a fine stone in excess of 1/2 carat is exceptionally rare and an example of nearly 1ct is quite special. Moreover, the color is an attractive medium brown and the gem has a fine overall gemmy character that is quite appealing. Always a treasure for the collector. With GIT mini cert.
