The mineral Vlasovite is inherently quite rare, being discovered in Russia in 1961 - the single occurrence of gem grade examples is at Sheffield Lake in Quebec. The Vlasovite forms in concert with the much more common Eudialyte and, since the initial find here, very few stones have been cut. A Gems & Gemology article from as recently as 2012 mentions the largest faceted example as 0.52 ct.; the rough is highly fractured and gemmy segments are small. A superb and bright Canadian rarity with a fine precision cut.
