For those with an interest in this rare gem classic, there are a few oddities are interesting to search out. Firstly, there is the range of color for the species, from colorless to deep violet-blue. Then there are some interesting heated stones that have turned orange. What most collections tend to be lacking however, are really fine bi-color specimens. In fact, we have seen no more than 4 or 5 gems that have a perfect 50/50 split between blue and colorless - somewhat surprising given that zoning is common in the species. This lovely example is one of the larger ones we have seen with a great color split. A bit of reflection of the blue on the edges, but distinctly bi-color. Great cutting, with just one well hidden veil on the blue side. A great varietal for this much loved gem material and many orders of magnitude rarer than standard colors
