Taaffeite is perhaps the most well known and most recognized of the very rare gem species. Despite being found in several locales worldwide, there is never more than a trickle of these on the market at any time - and far too few to satisfy demand. It is among the very few of the great rarities that is completely suited to jewelry use - durable and quite hard.
Two attributes help to set this gem apart from even those few available - the color and fine cutting. Taaffeites tend to be largely desaturated colors - very muddy browns or purplish grays. A stone with an attractive medium pink bodycolor, just touched with a purplish modifier, is scarce indeed. Given the rarity and per carat price of these, 'native' cuts have also long been the norm - saving weight by sacrificing shape and brilliance. Again, not the case at all here - a fine precision job we simply can't overstate the rarity of such a nicely cut Taaffeite. Not a huge stone, but an extremely respectable size and an essentially perfect example. With GIT mini cert.
