Long one of the great rarities of the gem world, there were just two or three faceted examples of Painite known to exist. This changed around a decade ago when a relatively large find was made in Burma. Species collectors were delighted - small, reasonable affordable Painites abounded. The problem for those interested in seeking out gemmy, high-quality examples was that they were simply not to be had. The large Burmese find was of heavily included and fractured rough - even very small faceted stones were often quite included.
Many years later and we are still looking for the elusive gem Painite that is both clean an well cut. Well, here is a superb example that has the extremely rare advantage of a fine open color and much lighter tone than normal. These are often so dark as to appear opaque - not at all the case here as the stone has both a fine color and shows excellent brilliance. All this before mentioning the impressive weight of well over 1 carat. These are so rare at this level, that they become true museum pieces. Beautiful stone with full GIA lab identification report as well.
