An exciting gem from a very new and unusual find of Euclase in Bahia. What makes this deposit so special is the occurrence of a previously unknown gem color for Euclase - a bright pink slightly modified by orange highlights. Primarily a deposit for mineral collectors, very very little of the find is gem grade; indeed we have been looking for some facetable fragments for over two years. An article describing both the find and the reasons for this unexpected color has just been published in the Journal of Gemmology.
From what we have been able to discern, few stones of this size and quality have been cut. Moreover, the rough is heavily fractured and clean stones are almost nonexistent. While essentially and eye-clean stone, this gem has a very faint series of Rutile needles that swirl inside - they soften the brilliance only slightly and seem to be a diagnostic inclusion for this find. Adding to the difficulty in getting gems out of this material is the exceptional color zoning of the crystals - intense pink/orange on the diagonal with colorless. Truly, a cutting nightmare! The color on this example is particularly bright and well saturated. A super new and attractive rarity.
