Highly unusual gem grade green Augelite was discovered at a deposit in Peru nearly 15 years ago - see the Winter 2006 edition of Gems and Gemology for a write up of the find. We were never able to see more than just a few stones from this find and no subsequent material is coming out. In fact, we had all but given up being able to offer anymore of these before stumbling upon this gem quite recently. The stone has an extremely attractive bright chartreuse hue and is exceptionally fine for stones from this find. The cutting is a superb job for the species (Augelite is not easy to facet) and gem faces up very nearly eye clean. Rare and lovely color; a very fine collector's stone.
