A large and fine example of the rarest form of gem Peridot - that which originates in the stony-iron meteorites known as pallasites. This particular fall, the Jepara meteorite, is well known as one of the few that has been capable of producing gem rough. As you might imagine, these have had quite a life and it is exceedingly rare for any gemmy sections to remain intact. The cutting and color here are superb, far above what is normal for a stone that is priced so high on a per-carat basis. Jepara stones are capable of being remarkably clean, as is the case here, and are among the finest of Pallasite stones. Flawless gems such as this example are indeed the rarest of the rare. These are easily distinguished from terrestrial stones by means of trace element analysis, so this one has a full lab report from GIT.
