27.98 ct. New York Hexagonite Cabochon

Color:  Medium Dark Purple Clarity:  Semi-Translucent
Origin:  Gouverneur Talc Co., Balmat, New York Cut:  Freeform Cabochon
Treatments:  None Measurements:  30.6 x 23.5 mm

One of the very few times we have seen this gem material as a cabochon.  New York Hexagonite is well known to rare stone collectors for producing small faceted gems of this unique purple color of the mineral Tremolite.  The deposit is world famous and is essentially the only area that produced any material in this color.  This fascinating piece was cut from old stock material (collecting now is quite limited) and is extremely impressive for its size and classic color.  Quite a conversation piece.
