1.40 ct. Bi-Color Benitoite
For those with an interest in this rare gem
classic, there are a few oddities are interesting to search out. Firstly,
there is the range of color for the species, from colorless to deep violet-blue.
Then there are some interesting heated stones that have turned orange. What most collections tend to be lacking
however, are really fine bi-color specimens. In fact, we have seen no more
than 4 or 5 gems that have a near 50/50 split between blue and colorless -
somewhat surprising given that zoning is common in the species. Even then,
if you are able to find a fine example it is almost unthinkable the stone could
approach the benchmark weight of 1 carat, let alone exceed it. We have
never before seen such a fine bi-color in such a size. Many times rarer
than a fine blue of equal size.
