0.26 ct. HaŁyne

Color:  Dark Blue Clarity:  Slightly Included
Origin:  Niedermendig, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany Cut:  Oval Brilliant
Treatments:  None Measurements:  5.4 x 3.6 mm

A well known rarity among collectors, HaŁyne is famed for it's stunning blue bodycolor.  A completely natural shade, it is among the most saturated of blues (almost an electric shade) possible in the gem world.  Though first described in samples from Mt. Vesuvius in Italy, most gem HaŁyne comes from the Eifel District of Germany, where is has been collected for many decades, mostly on weekends by local rockhounds.  The gems are notoriously small and some of the largest examples known barely break the carat mark.  This very fine stone has absolutely top color - a deep and saturated blue with no modifiers - the tone is just right as some of these can be too light.  The stone is also very well cut, again another rarity among these.  There are a few very low relief inclusions that do not affect the color or brilliance.  An exceptionally fine stone and a great example of a classic rarity.
