5.33 ct. Sri Lankan Hessonite

Color:  Dark Reddish-Brown Clarity:  Eye Clean
Origin:  Sri Lanka Cut:  Oval Brilliant
Treatments:  None  Measurements:  12.3 x 9.3 mm

Hessonite is a variety of grossular Garnet that is found at many deposits the world over.  Gems of this type have been coming from the gravels of Sri Lanka for centuries - typically they are either a light golden shade, or this deeper red/brown/orange hue that is often referred to as 'cinnamon'.  We see far fewer of these now than we did just a few years ago and precious few that are as nice as this example.  A lovely a well cut gem (always rare with these as windowing seems to be the rule), the stone is not overly dark at all and is free from any distracting inclusions.  The size is ideal, large yet still perfectly suited to use in jewelry.  A lovely color that is distinctly Sri Lankan.
