An intriguing piece from one of the most talked about of recent gem finds, the ruby deposit at Winza, Tanzania. This find has produced some very fine rubies, notable in that they do not require heat treatment to achieve a stunning color. Strong color zoning is also a hallmark of this find - what you are seeing in this piece is patchy blue zoning in a primarily red slice of corundum. For the gem enthusiast that could not be more interesting as you actually have ruby and blue sapphire in the same stone! Superb conversation piece and quite attractive - very finely polished with a slightly beveled edge. Aesthetic and just downright unique.
