For those with an interest in this rare gem classic, there are a few oddities are interesting to search out. Firstly, there is the range of color for the species, from colorless to deep violet-blue. Then there are some interesting heated stones that have turned orange - see one of those this month as well. What most collections tend to be lacking however, are really fine bi-color specimens. In fact, we have seen no more than 4 or 5 gems that have a perfect 50/50 split between blue and colorless - somewhat surprising given that zoning is common in the species. This flawless gem is actually the largest of these we have offered, the zoning being easier to deal with in smaller examples. A great varietal for this much loved gem material and many orders of magnitude rarer than standard colors.
